Martin Higgins grew up in the heart of England and received an extensive education in hospitality and hotel management before recognising that his true vocation lay in private service. He began his career within The Royal Household, training at Buckingham Palace as a footman and underbutler, a distinguished foundation in the discipline, discretion and precision that define exceptional household service.
He went on to work throughout Europe for an elite international clientele before spending almost ten years serving a prominent New York family. On returning to London, he co-created Green Baize Door, which became one of the best-known names in domestic staff recruitment, while also operating Private Chefs Incorporated, London.
In 2006, Martin turned his focus to the management of the worldwide residences of a high-net-worth family. In that role, he was entrusted with interviewing, hiring, training and supervising staff, overseeing estate administration and managing, on a hands-on basis, the day-to-day running of multiple homes. His professionalism, reliability and diplomacy earned the confidence of his clients across every aspect of household organisation and private service.
Over the course of his career, Martin has also worked alongside internationally respected designers including Mark Hampton, Peter Marino and Michael S. Smith, helping to ensure the smooth opening and set-up of some of the world’s foremost private residences. This experience gave him a deep understanding not only of service and staffing, but of how a household is shaped, presented and brought into full working order.
Now based in London, Martin brings this experience to House Martin of London, where he oversees all aspects of effective household organisation. Combining decades of practical knowledge with an empathetic and compassionate approach, he works with both employers and staff to identify where support is needed, strengthen standards and create households that run with calm, clarity and cohesion.
He understands that the success of a private home depends not only on high standards, but on harmony, communication and trust. His work is grounded in the belief that when staff are properly guided, supported and trained, a household can function with quiet efficiency and genuine ease.
